Imports of second-hand handhelds and cameras banned

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has listed secondhand printers, cameras and cell phones in the group of eight categories of goods that will be banned from imports. The list of secondhand information technology products that are not allowed to be imported into Vietnam was approved by Minister Le Doan Hop and will take effect as of February 15, 2010.

The list includes used printers, fax machines, typewriters, computers, pocket recorders and calculators, projectors, fixed and mobile phones, cameras, television, electric cables and optical cables.

The ban is only imposed on Vietnamese enterprises, individuals and organizations that import used IT products to sell.

The ban is not applied to those that import these items for warranty service, to re-export or to import in the form of relocating means of production.

Used laptops will be still imported under a mid-2007 decision that removed the ban on imports of secondhand laptops.
